I’ve written and posted several entries that confer Adele and her songs. I guess that shows how a person can really be affected by her works. Her lyrics are simply heart-piercing and are really highly relatable. I remember saying this line to a friend: “alam mo ang love ayon kay mareng Adele, cycle lang yan e. Una, “Make You Feel My Love” tapos, “Chasing Pavements” then “Someone Like You.” (“you know, love according to my friend Adele, is just a cycle. First “Make You Feel My Love” stage, and then you’ll be “Chasing Pavements”, and lastly it would be “Someone Like You”).
During her tear-jerking live performance at Brit Awards, the guy that somehow looked like Rajo Laurel introduced her and quoted this:
“there’s nothing quite like the feeling when you’re listening to a song written by someone you don’t know, whom you’ve never met, and it somehow managed to describe exactly how you felt at a particular moment in your life”
True enough, I find it highly amusing to discover that how this talent could tell a story through the lyrics of her songs. And it’s actually quite a seldom feat for one artist to do so. Ok, want proof? Lemme share to you a story. But let me tell you upright, if there are any similarities of the story I’m going to tell you to a story of someone you know, it’s purely coincidence.
A guy decides to push a chance for love, even though there were some doubts:
“I’ve made up my mind, no need it think it over if I’m wrong I am right, don’t need to look no further, this ain’t lust, I know this is love. But, if I tell the world, it’ll never be enough ‘cause it was not said to you and that’s exactly what I need to do if I’d end up with you”
- Chasing Pavements, 19
Then he gives everything for her. Make her feel special:
“I know you haven’t made your mind up yet but I would never do you wrong, I’ve known it from the moment that we met no doubt in my mind where you belong...”
“I could make you happy make your dreams come true, nothing that I wouldn’t do, go to the ends of earth for you, to make you feel my love...”
- Make You Feel My Love, 19
The whole thing went well. And suddenly, everything changes. She became cold and started to shun him leaving him with no clue at all. And then he thinks again:
“Should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements, even if it leads nowhere, or would it be a waste even if I knew my place should I just leave it there, should I give up, or should I just keep chasing pavements, even if it leads nowhere.”
- Chasing Pavements, 19
Silence... The guy tried to ask her:
“When will I see you again, you left with no goodbye, without a single word was said... I have no idea of the state we were in...”
- Don’t You Remember, 19
Having no answer for a long time he has waited, the guy assumed it’s over and tries to move further, but then she suddenly emerged, giving him the “it’s not you, it’s me” crap and said:
“I know I have a fickle heart, and a bitterness, and a bitterness, and I’m wonderin’ why I have heaviness in my head, but don’t you remember, don’t you remember, the reason you loved me before, baby please remember, me once more...”
“I’ll give you the space so you can breathe and I keep my distance so you would be free, and hope that I find the missing piece, to bring you back to me...”
- Don’t You Remember, 21
And then he realizes one thing:
“...and I hear your words that I made up, you say my name that there could be an us, I best tidy up my head, I’m the only one in love, I’m the only one in love...”
- Melt My Heart To Stone, 19
And to think this is not the first time she broke his heart. He asks:
“why do you steal my hand whenever I’m standing my own ground, you’d build me up, then you leave me dead”
- Melt My Heart To Stone, 19
Angry as he would be, he thinks:
“...there’s a side, to you that I never knew, never knew, all the things you’d say they were never true, never true, and the games you’d play you would always win, always win.”
- Set Fire To The Rain, 21
“I won’t let you close enough to hurt me, no I won’t rescue you to just desert me I can’t give you the heart you think you gave me, it’s time to say goodbye to turning tables.”
- Turning Tables, 21
“...the scars of your love remind me they keep me thinking that we almost had it all, the scars of your love they leave me breathless, I can’t help feeling, we could’ve had it all, rolling in the deep, you had my heart inside your hand, but you played it, to the beat.”
- Rolling In The Deep, 21
“I find myself repeatin’ like a broken tune and I’m forever excusin’ your intentions. Then I give in to my pretendings, which forgive you each time, without me knowing, they melt my heart to stone”
- Melt My Heart To Stone, 19
But really, at the end of the day, he still wishes for the same thing:
“...sometimes I wake up by the door, that heart you caught must be waiting for you, even now when we’re already over, I can’t help myself I’m looking for you”
- Set Fire To The Rain, 21
“...you know how time flies, only yesterday was the time of our lives, we were born and raised, in a summer haze bound by the surprise of our glory days...”
“...i had hoped you’d see my face and that you’d be reminded that for me, it isn’t over. Never mind I’ll find someone like you, I wish nothing but the best for you too, don’t forget me I beg I remember you said, sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead.”
- Someone Like You, 21
